"The Door" painting captures the timeless design & grandeur of a hand-crafted Gothic cathedral in Timaru, New Zealand. The shadows on the monochromatic gray & off-white stone display the smooth & rough textures of the stalwart architecture, but also make the bright blue door with exquisite wrought-iron design draw you in to see what's inside & find "sanctuary"!
On a special anniversary trip to New Zealand, I took thousands of pictures, & quite a few of exquisite architectural cathedrals, but was smitten by this light turquoise blue side door of St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Timaru. It took 28 yr.s to build (1880-1909), but was in repair from earthquake damage. In spite of a large tree in front of “The Door”, I took pictures from different angles, which made me crazy trying to capture the incredible light reflections & shadows of "the hand-carved stone arches correctly, head-on! It dramatically portrays the promise offered by Jesus, in John 10:9, “I am the Door. If anyone enters by Me, they will be saved and will go in and out and find safe pasture.”
