"Wooly Listening" artwork brings back memories of a trip to New Zealand. Although fearful, anxious sheep generally huddle together, in this scene, they are scattered about. It depicts the difference between those sheep who are self-preoccupied during feeding time, contrasted by the center sheep looking up & dependent on their shepherd.
When I had a lifelong dream fulfilled to visit New Zealand, I learned that there are more sheep than people living there! I was amazed by the beauty of the Remarkables Mt.s (in background). I tried to contrast the softness of sheep's wool created by swirling brush strokes with calm colors against the vivid colors of the rich green grass & deep purple hues of the rugged mountains in the background. Although I’ve read a lot about these wooly animals, I was intrigued by their fearful, following behavior. "Wooly Listening" is a Large landscape artwork of animal-behavior that depicts their preoccupation with self-preservation, (like humans). However, one center sheep is keenly aware of the protective voice of the shepherd. This art is inspired by John 10:27, where Jesus said, “My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, & they follow Me.”
